New York Diary, 22-26 October 2010
Arrived in NY on 22 October 2010 at 3pm by Emirates, the immigration thing went smoother, remembering my previous experienced being dragged to inner office for questioning 2 years ago.
It was chilly outside. Went to Eric place by Air Train and Subway. Eric kindly left his room keys though he was in business trip.
Bought mobile phone since my Qatari one didn't work with AT&T SIM card. The SIM card was a scam, I think, the Indian lady seller said it was unlimited, but it has limited value per day.
After calling Keitarou, watched my first show in New York this time, Fuerza Bruta. A unique show of contemporary dance. People stood in the middle of theather, and performers performed in the middle or on top.
After the Fuerta Bruta, met with Keitarou with his friend Shou to watch NB Singing, few times felt sleep during the show... then we went to nearby by Therapy where I met Nobu and we moved to the Ritz...
The Ritz was my favourite place to drink and dance, had a real fun night with my new friends, cheaper drink, nice music and lovely crowd.
Then we moved to Urge, a club with the gogo show.
On 23 October (Sat), after watching Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake (contemporary beautifully coreographed ballet show) with Nobu, I met Yudi, after our last meeting more than 9 years ago in Japan. With his partner, we went to have dinner at a large buffet restaurant Uchi-Umi at 34th St., maybe the best buffet I have ever been, with nice sushi, oyster, delicious ice cream.
After the dinner, I ran to Billy Elliot, my first Broadway show tonight.
Even though the show was hilarious, I felt sleepy a few times, maybe because of full stomach and tiredness.
On 24 October (Sun), met with Yudi again for lunch in Penang Malaysian Restaurant and went to nearby Central Park for a short walk.
Then I ran into my second Broadway show, La Cage des Foilles. Loved the show pretty much. The only show I didn't feel sleepy even a while, after Mamma Mia. The show was fun.
The same day, watch my next Broadway show, In the Heights, the show I wanted to watch 2 years ago.
Not that interesting even the American Idol winner was starring.
After the show went to Japanese Totto ramen on 52 th St. (between 8 and 9 Av.), was delicious. Really like in Japan with people lining outside the small shop, and the counter is just look like ramen shops in Japan.
After a break, went to Splash, but nobody there except a nice bartender.
On 25 October (Mon), Nobu showed me NYU after a lunch.
Went to Brooklyn to see my aunt at her shop.
Ran into Broadway again to see Chicago, a sexy show, but a bit sleepy...
On 26 October (Tue), departed NY to Miami.
It was really busy trip. Thanks to Eric for hosting me in his nice apartment, thanks to Nobu and Keitarou, thanks to Yudi and Ron, for making this trip memorable.
